Dress Code

Dress Code:

Leotard:

Leotards (black or pink) should be short-sleeved or wide-strapped. Necklines should also be high-cut. Please no spaghetti straps, no cleavage, and no colored accents.

Tights:

Tights should be worn under a leotard and inside ballet shoes.

Shoes:

Proper ballet flat shoes (slippers) in leather or canvas. We recommend split sole shoes. Shoes must have elastics, and drawstrings should be tied and tucked into the shoe. If shoes must be sewn, they should be sewn before class.

Skirts:

Pink or black skirt ONLY, depending on level. For younger dancers, skirts should not go past the knee, and for older dancers, skirts should sit above the knee. If a student needs additional coverage for modesty preferences, please reach out via our email.

Shorts:

Students may wear above-the-knee biker shorts (pink or black, depending on leotard color) under their skirts for additional coverage. Please, no shorts without skirts.

Warm Ups:

These garments that are not part of the ballet uniform are used to help dancers’ muscles warm up while they prepare for class. They are permitted for all levels only at the barre until the teacher instructs dancers to remove their warm-ups for class. While Elaia Academy does not currently possess strict guidelines on warm-ups, they should be lightweight, flexible, and not too baggy, with the intention of keeping the dancer warm while they prepare for dancing in the center. Prohibited articles include: coats, outdoor jackets, sweatshirts with a hood, shoes, socks, jeans, pants loose around the ankles, heavy skirts, belts, gloves, scarves, or hats.

Below are specific dress code guidelines for each ballet class level.

Pre-Ballet & Ballet 1

Little Ladies

Hair pulled back (preferably in a ponytail or bun)
Pink Ballet Leotard
Pink or Nude Ballet Tights
Pink or Nude Full Ballet Slipper canvas or leather
No dangly earrings
Pink ballet skirt

Optional: Pink or Black Shorts (must not be constrictive) under skirt

Young Gentlemen

Navy Blue T-Shirt
Black or Grey Sweatpants
Black or Nude Ballet Slippers canvas or leather

Ballet 2

Ladies

Hair in a tight bun
Black Ballet Leotard (straps/sleeves must be at least two finger widths wide)
Pink or Nude Ballet Tights
Pink or Nude Full Ballet Slipper canvas or leather (Ballet Slippers and Ballet tights should be coordinated)
No dangly earrings
Black ballet skirt

Optional: black spandex shorts under skirt

Gentlemen

Navy Blue T-Shirt
Black or Grey Sweatpants with elastic waist
Black or Nude Ballet Slippers canvas or leather

Ballet 3A & 3B
